Recent research shows that the country Hong Kong, which has people who live longer than those in other parts of the world. Previously, it was Japan, but now Hong Kong leads the way. Aren’t you also curious about how they live this long (an average of 85.77 years) or what their lifestyle is like?

Let’s first take a quick look at the 8 laws in a glimpse:

  1. Nutrition
  2. Exercise
  3. Water
  4. Sunlight
  5. Temperance
  6. Rest/Sleep
  7. Air
  8. Trust in God

They are often memorized using the mnemonic ‘NEW START’.

1. Nutrition

Nutritious foods give us more energy, yeah, you might have heard that somewhere, maybe back when you were in school. We’re no exception. I mean, if you don’t eat, you’ll die, so eating is essential. But to live a long life, you need to follow a proper diet plan. For example, the Chinese people we’re talking about usually eat fresh foods such as fruits, vegetables, and seafood. They also try to consume whole and unrefined grains, like fruits that you can eat with the skin. You should also avoid oily foods and maintain a consistent dietary pattern. Don’t eat heavy meals at night, try to eat more at breakfast and have your meals at regular times every day.

2. Exercise

Your body is like a machine, and if a machine is not used regularly, it gets rusty. To avoid that ‘rustiness,’ you need to exercise regularly. There’s a saying that goes, ‘1 minute of exercise gives you 2 minutes of longevity.’ There are plenty of ways to exercise, both at home and outdoors, you can check out our other blog articles for ideas. Did you know that if you don’t exercise, you’re at risk of obesity? And about three-fourths of Americans aren’t even aware of this.

3. Water

You probably heard that the other name of water is life. When you are born, your body has 75% water of your total weight, so you can guess from here how much water is important for our lives. Any single cell has 70% to 80% water of its total mass. Here is a fun fact: you can actually survive 3 to 5 days without drinking a sip of water, so that much water you have stored in your body. And it is continuously being used by your own body. It’s like engine oil and it needs to get changed so it doesn’t overheat or wear out. Your body needs water from time to time, or else you might get all dried up.

4. Sunlight

Sunlight helps boost your vitamin D supply by transforming a cholesterol-like component in our blood. Vitamin D is vital for our bone health. It also helps prevent many diseases in our body, regulates calcium levels, and acts as an antioxidant. Ultimately, sunshine is important for cancer reduction, rickets prevention, and reducing osteoporosis.

5. Temperance

Have you ever wondered what a balanced lifestyle is? I mean, you’ve probably always heard ‘don’t drink alcohol,’ ‘don’t smoke,’ ‘don’t do this,’ or ‘don’t do that.’ Why does everyone always say no to certain things? It’s not about saying no to everything, it’s about avoiding bad habits that previous generations believed we should steer clear of. It’s all about maturity. If you think something is bad for you, you should always avoid it to benefit yourself. We all know that smoking causes cancer, but if you understand why you should avoid it, because you have a life, a family to protect, then you’ll realize the importance of avoiding those bad habits. It’s all about protecting your own surroundings by protecting your own health.

6. Rest

A few moments ago, I said that our body is like a machine. You give it food as fuel, and you start to work all day, and if you find some time, you go to the gym, do exercise, or hang out with your friends. But like a machine, if you overuse something, it might actually get worse instead of bringing good results. Sleep is something that you don’t need urgently, but it’s important. Without sleep, your health might get weaker, and you will feel so low that eventually you will lose the energy to raise your head. It’s proven that if someone doesn’t get enough sleep, they might develop psychological problems. If you want to get the best output from your body, then give it a rest sometimes.

7. Air

Do you know why a baby, when it comes out of the womb, starts to cry heavily and doctors think it’s a good sign? It’s because their lungs get filled with air. From that moment, if their body stops getting oxygen for a couple of minutes, they can actually die. A person can live several days without food, and with our previous discussion, 3 to 5 days without water, but without air, life gets full stop. But there is a catch, you have to get fresh air to stay healthy. It’s really natural, if you wake up and breathe in polluted air, your mind will get messed up, and you will feel irritated. But if you breathe fresh air, you will feel refreshed, and there is a high chance that you will improve compared to your previous state of health.

8. Trust in God

We all know that we are created by a supernatural being; in our words, we call them Gods. Believing in God helps us in many ways. Often, people feel alone and depressed. In the meantime, another person who is also depressed but has faith in God might actually have a chance to struggle less in overcoming the situation than the person who doesn’t believe in God, because at that time, you have someone to rely on. You can relax and have faith, and that faith soon becomes reality. In medical science, positive thinking and having faith in God also help in healing deteriorating health. It also improves the psychological health of any patient.

Conclusion

Why do you even need to know about these things? Actually, you don’t need to maintain all these things, these things are maintained by the countries at the top and their people, and they are living longer lives than you. But why am I telling you this? That’s because now you know how you can compare yourself to them, and it’s your choice. Do you want a long, healthy, and happy life, or do you want to let it be how it was?
